Arrancamos nueva temporada con horario de 7 a 8 de la tarde y emitiendo de lunes a viernes.

En este primer programa te ofrecemos algunos de los mejores discos que han caído por nuestra trampilla durante estas semanas estivales, nuestros trabajos favoritos de la cosecha veraniega.

Todos ellos los analizaremos con más detención en próximos episodios, salvo el álbum de The Connection, "Newest Hit Makers" (Rumble Records), el cual elegimos hace tiempo como Disco del Verano y merecía ser nuestro disco destacado en este trepidante debut.

“Esta ciudad intenta comerme vivo, pero es un sitio tan bueno como cualquier otro para intentarlo, mantén la cabeza firma y sigue avanzando, conseguirás pasar al otro lado. Hay nubes oscuras en el cielo, pero si miras con atención verás que detrás brilla el sol”. (Eat me alive)

No lo decimos nosotros, lo dice Gentleman Jesse, el actual rey del power pop. Y eso sí que lo decimos las criaturas del Sótano. Pero sabemos que sois muchos los que nos apoyáis, muchos los que ya habáis caído en las redes de este músico de Georgia.

Su primer álbum homónimo del año 2008 ya era una genialidad y uno de los artefactos más refrescantes que hemos catado en los últimos años. Pero es que su segunda entrega, "Leaving Atlanta", se ha convertido en la absoluta consagración de este nuevo genio de la melodía ultraenergética. Gentleman Jesse es el alterego de Jesse Smith, bajista de la memorable banda de punk rock Carbonas, aunque es su nueva andadura en solitario la que va camino de convertirlo en uno de los grandes por si mismo.

Resulta inspirador leer que esta maravilla de disco esta grabado en el sótano del propio Gentleman Jesse. El sonido es perfecto para una colección de canciones que tan solo en breves instantes se desvían del sobresaliente alto. El padrino del power pop, Paul Collins, se deshace en elogios hacia este hombre. Sus compatriotas de Atlanta, los Black Lips, son admiradores declarados y se lo llevan de gira siempre que pueden. Aunque debería, es probable que su nombre no brille más allá de las escenas subterráneas. Pero en El Sótano ya lo tenemos entre uno de los grandes músicos de nuestra generación. Y, de verdad, te recomendamos, que lo busques, que lo escuches y que lo disfrutes. Se llama Gentleman Jesse, su nuevo álbum se titula “Leaving Atlanta” y lo edita el sello Douche master.

Es nuestro disco destacado de hoy, y te garantizamos que también va a ser uno de nuestros discos favoritos de 2012.

Las escenas musicales vienen y van, surgen y desaparecen. Hay momentos determinados en los que en un lugar concreto se produce un boom de grupos relacionados con un tipo de sonidos. Cuando eso ocurre se suele decir que en “tal sitio” se ha formado una buena “escena”. Este capítulo del Sótano está dedicado íntegramente a una de esas escenas.

El lugar es Canadá y el momento es ahora. Los sonidos son los del punk rock y el power pop. Ottawa o Toronto se han convertido en epicentros de la escena actual ligada a estos estilos, con un agitado caldo de cultivo de nuevas bandas que están ofreciendo algunos de los mejores trabajos del género a día de hoy.
