Se venía venir, no se iban a encasillar.

Estos noruegos arrancaron hace unos añitos con un disco de surf garagero y mariachi que ya los mostraba como una banda diferente en la escena instro europea. Visitaron nuestro Sótano en aquellos tiempos (no tan lejanos) de emisones de madrugada, les vimos dar un gran concierto en la clausarada sala La Pequeña Betty y nos dejaron a la espera de próximas noticias.

Y aquí están. Con su segunda entrega, Organic Voodoo Soup, han reventado completamente sus barreras estilísticas y sónicas, dando forma a un álbum tan completo como poderoso. Versiones de Charlie Rich, Chuck Berry, The Byrds y Shorty Long vía Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels se entremezclan con enormes temas propios.

Healer Selecta (aka Yvan Serrano) es un reputado DJ, productor y agitador de la escena británica que formó este grupo para crear la banda sonora de una película de Tura Satana.

Pero tras esa iniciativa el proyecto siguió adelante y se ha convertido en un potente combo que aglutina sonidos de surf, garaje, soul o RnB, con dos cantantes femeninas al frente y una selección de virtuosos músicos de respaldo.

Tras un single y un EP la banda debuta en formatolargo con el disco "Party Girl", nuestro primer disco destacado del año.

No les pierdas la pista, vendrán a presentarlo por España en el mes de febrero.

Ike Turner: primeros pasos

El 12 de diciembre de 2007 falleció Ike Turner, pionero del rocknroll y emblemática figura del RnB asociada hoy a los términos de maltratador, cocainómano y convicto.

Pero antes de que su vida se cruzara con la de Tina a comienzos de los 60 y esta le catapultara al estrellato, Ike se pasó toda una década peleando incansablemente por hacerse un hueco en la industria musical.

Perseverante y disciplinario como pocos, siendo todavía un adolescente firmó uno de los primeros rockanroles de la historia, ejerció como músico de estudio en decenas de grabaciones y lideró su propia banda, The Kings of Rhythm, con los que se convirtió en uno de los nombres más respetados de la década de los 50.

Hoy recordamos aquellos primeros pasos de este músico de Mississippi, seleccionando algunas de sus principales aportaciones entre 1951 y 1954.

Hipbone Slim, también conocido como Sir Bald Diddley, es uno de los personajes más activos y prolíficos de la escena británica del surf-garage-rocknroll.

Edita ahora Square Guitar (Dirty Water Rcds.), su quinto disco al frente de The Knee Tremblers. Un nuevo homenaje a todos esos sonidos que se agitan en su afeitada cabeza y, en especial, a uno de sus grandes ídolos, el maestro Bo Diddley.

Wooooow!!!

Desde el barrio Uptown, norte de Chicago, llega al Sótano el cantante JC Brooks acompañado por Bill Bungeroth (guitarra) y Kevin Marks (percusión).

JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound son una de las últimas sensaciones en la nueva escena soul y uno de los grupos más interesantes surgidos en los últimos años en la Ciudad del Viento. Charlamos con ellos de su trayectoria, de sus dos trabajos de estudio editados con Vampisoul, Beat Of Our Drum (2009) y Want More (2011), y del sonido Chicago Soul recordando a leyendas como Curtis Mayfield o Syl Johnson.

Como guinda final, nos regalan dos canciones en formato trío y deslumbrante sonido desde nuestro rincón de los directos.
