Arrancamos nueva temporada con horario de 7 a 8 de la tarde y emitiendo de lunes a viernes.

En este primer programa te ofrecemos algunos de los mejores discos que han caído por nuestra trampilla durante estas semanas estivales, nuestros trabajos favoritos de la cosecha veraniega.

Todos ellos los analizaremos con más detención en próximos episodios, salvo el álbum de The Connection, "Newest Hit Makers" (Rumble Records), el cual elegimos hace tiempo como Disco del Verano y merecía ser nuestro disco destacado en este trepidante debut.

The Hillbilly Moon Explosion

"Buy Beg or Steal" es el nuevo disco de los Hillbilly Moon Explosion, el cuarto publicado por esta banda suiza en sus 13 años de trayectoria.

Formados en Zurich a finales de los 90 por la cantante Emanuela Huter y el contrabajista Oliver Baroni. Ella provenía del trío MD Moon, él acababa de disolver los Hillbilly Headhunters. A la unión de fuerzas decidieron llamarla Hillbilly Moon. En todos estos años se han recorrido Europa en unas cuantas ocasiones, visita a España incluída, e incluso por los EEUU.

Su nombre viene despuntando desde hace años en la escena ligada al rock’n’roll clásico pero pudiera ser este el disco que los permitiese asaltar audiencias mayores. Tablas y talento no les faltan, y su sonido, aunque proviene de la escena rockabilly, sabe adaptarse a los nuevos tiempos, añadiendo muchos otros ingredientes a la coctelera: blues, canción francesa o italiana (en este disco versionan el Natasa, de Walter Clerici), pero hay sobretodo una buena carga de neorockabilly que en algunos momentos alcanza territorios próximos al psychobilly. Todo marcado siempre por la seductora voz de Emanuela.

Si para su anterior trabajo se fueron a grabar a California y colaboró con ellos el señor Eddie Angel, o Archie Thompson de la orquesta de Ray Charles, para este nuevo trabajo se han ido a un estudio de Londres y han contado con otros sonados colaboradores; en primerísimo lugar hay que destacar la gran sorpresa que ha sido encontrarse con Greg Townson como productor. El cantante, guitarrista y líder de los Hi-Risers, se ha puesto a los mandos de los controles, y es en buena parte el responsable del impecable sonido que tiene este disco durante todo su minutaje, además ha colaborado en la composición de un par de temas, y ha metido un coro aquí o una guitarra rítmica allá. Por otro lado habría que destacar las colaboraciones de Geraint Watkins, legendario compañero de Nick Lowe y tantos otros que ha puesto su piano al servicio de la banda, o al señor Mark Sparky, vocalista de los Demented Are Go, una de las más grandes bandas del psychobilly europeo.

Andre Williams sigue en la carretera

Nadie puede llamar “sucia” a otra persona de la forma en que lo hace Andre Williams, este tipo sabe de lo que habla.

The Black Godfather. El sr Williams, lleva unos cuantos años disfrutando de una segunda juventud. Con su papel de pionero y leyenda del R&B ya acorazado y a prueba de balas, a sus 75 primaveras, sigue recorriendo escenarios y visitando estudios de grabación de forma incansable.

La última le ha llevado a juntarse con una buena tropa; en este disco, “Hoods and shades”, editado por Bloodshot Records, han participado: al contrabajo el célebre productor Don Was, a las guitarras la leyenda de la Motown Dennis Coffey y el señor Greasy Carlisy, recordado entre muchas otras labores por su papel junto a Robert Gordon y Chris Spedding. Jim Diamond, de los Dirtbombs, al bajo eléctrico, Jim White, batería de los Dirty Three a las baquetas. Y empacando el resultado, el veterano productor Matthew Smith. Con esta plantilla no hace falta insistir en que el sonido de este álbum es absolutamente brillante.

¿Y el señor Andre Williams? Pues escribe todos los temas y, conocedor de sus limitaciones, aporta su cavernosa voz de forma comedida, ofreciendo más presencia y actitud que palabras, adornando aquí y allá las excelentes bases instrumentales.

Janey & the Ravemen

Te invitamos a viajar a la ribera del río Mersey, en algún momento entre 1962 y 1964, y a disfrutar con los sonidos que se gestaron hace medio siglo en aquel epicentro musical.

Eso es lo que hacen Janey and the Ravemen, una nueva formación de Mersey beat, con voz femenina al frente respaldada por miembros de The Kaisers y The Rapiers. George Miller (aka Kaiser George) es el principal compositor del grupo.

Se venía venir, no se iban a encasillar.

Estos noruegos arrancaron hace unos añitos con un disco de surf garagero y mariachi que ya los mostraba como una banda diferente en la escena instro europea. Visitaron nuestro Sótano en aquellos tiempos (no tan lejanos) de emisones de madrugada, les vimos dar un gran concierto en la clausarada sala La Pequeña Betty y nos dejaron a la espera de próximas noticias.

Y aquí están. Con su segunda entrega, Organic Voodoo Soup, han reventado completamente sus barreras estilísticas y sónicas, dando forma a un álbum tan completo como poderoso. Versiones de Charlie Rich, Chuck Berry, The Byrds y Shorty Long vía Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels se entremezclan con enormes temas propios.

Dex Romweber Duo

Con más de 25 años de trayectoria a sus espaldas y sonados antecedentes en aquel grupo de culto llamado Flat Duo Jets, el señor Dexter Romweber sigue fiel al formato dúo de guitarra y batería así como al rocknroll con el que creció.

Y no solo eso. Su nuevo disco, "Is that you in blue?", editado con Bloodshot Rcds, está destinado a figurar entre lo más destacado de su carrera.

Grandes composiciones propias junto a versiones mutadas al particular y atmosférico estilo del Dex Romweber Duo.
